Learn More About These Special Stones
Swarovski crystal beads from Austria exceed all others in terms of quality and elegance. Swarovski Crystal is the premium quality, full-lead crystal made today. It contains a minimum of 32% lead, making the crystal optically pure. The crystal is faceted with wonderful precision, creating stunning prisms. Radiant colors and / or coatings are added to these crystals to produce pendants, stones, and beads of dazzling beauty in an incredible variety of shapes and sizes. Swarovski Crystal is matchless in excellence and distinction.
Flat-back non-hotfix Rhinestones have a flat back, and can be glued on using one of the several adhesives specially made for the purpose.(E6000 Glue)
Flat-back Hot-fix/Glue-On Rhinestones already have glue on the back. Set using a regular clothes-iron (if you're very careful!), or using a tool (much safer and quicker) such as The BeJeweler™, which heats up the stone, melting the glue, and applies the stone to the fabric. These can also be glued on using e6000 glue if you do not want to heat the backing up.
Swarovski Beads can be strung using s small needle.
What does the "AB" mean?
AB stands for Aurora Boreale. It is a special coating (developed in 1955) that is applied to the surface of a glass stone or bead to produces a rainbow-coloured sparkle. It echoes all the vibrant oranges, yellows, blues and greens of the Aurora Borealis, the "Northern Lights" atmospheric phenomena. This coating is most effective on Crystal stones but gives a beautiful depth and hue to all the other colours. The AB effect on Acrylic Stones is slightly different in that the ‘rainbow" is on the inside of the stone rather than on the surface.
What does the "AB2X" mean?
AB2X is a double coating of the above "AB". It creates a unique coloring not seen anywhere else. AB2X coloring tends to be more difficult to find on the market.
What does ss Mean?
The term "ss" used with the rhinestones is European for "stone size."
What About Czech crystal ?
There is one type of glass bead that is often confused with crystal beads. Czech faceted fire polish beads are NOT made from crystal. They are made by pressing glass in a mold to make the bead, roughly faceting it by hand or machine, then slightly melting the surface of a bead to "fire polish" it by putting it back into a heat source to give it a better luster. This process will slightly round off the facets, which makes it easily identifiable as a glass bead.
